Sorcha to this day is the horse that I loved most and cried most for when she left. She was extremely intelligent and one of the nicest brightest characters you could have. She also had one of the biggest bucks I have known and I lost count of the number of times I went sailing through the air - I think it helped develop a better seat!

She is also the horse that taught me the most and gave me the best eventing grounding. I bought her as a 5 year old after she had had a foal and done a season whipping in. She had great paces but was sometimes difficult to get together for the dressage. She was very bold xc and show jumping she had a great jump but I think at that time my inexperience particularly at Novice level did not always help her enough. However we had a lot of fun and some good results.

As 2004 drew to a close Sorcha had a holiday. On the last day she was spotted in the field with colic symptoms. She needed an operation that Sunday night and then just as she was turning the corner she went down with colitis and the vets thought they were going to lose her. Luckily they ignored convention and turned her out in a small paddock at the vets, her natural greediness returned and Dr. Green did its job. She was off for 6 months but returned to successfully event again. It was a sad decision to sell her but she was never going to go any further and I had to work her very hard to keep the weight off and the level of fitness she needed as ideally she was just a little bit too heavy for the job. She went to a pony club home in Leicestershire.
